PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Monoethanolamine is a colorless, viscous, hygroscopic liquid with a specific ammonia odor, freely miscible with water, well soluble in ethanol, benzene, chloroform, poorly in marginal hydrocarbons. It is the simplest stable amino alcohol, has strong alkaline properties.

Chemical formula: C2H7NO.

Monoethanolamine is obtained together with diethanolamine and triethanolamine by liquid-phase ammonolysis of ethylene oxide in the presence of a small amount of water in one stage. The resulting mixture of ethanolamines, water and ammonia is separated by distillation.

APPLICATION

– as absorbents of “acid” gases (H2S, CO2, SO2, etc.) in the purification processes of process gases at oil refining, gas production and chemical industries. The absorbed gas is released when the solution is heated, the regenerated monoethanolamine is recycled;

– as a raw material for the production of emulsifiers, dispersants, foam stabilizers, detergents, shampoos, surfactants, etc.;

– for the production of ethylenediamine, N-vinylpyrrolidone and a number of other chemical products;

– in pharmaceuticals as a buffer substance and for stabilizing emulsions;

– in the production of herbicides, cosmetics, antihistamines.
